AVAAZ have organised a rather unusual (but peaceful, obviously!) event, to take place in central London, next Thursday but, without volunteers it can't happen. They are hoping to form a chain of people from the Royal Albert Hall, where the Dalai Lama will be giving a speech, to the Chinese Embassy. The Met. Police have given the OK for up to 2,000 participants and, after the Dalai Lama has finished his speech, someone will shake his hand, turn shake the hand of the next person who will pass the handshake on so that it will eventually reach the embassy. I'm quoting the next bit.....
"We will assign you to a place in the handshake, which will begin at 4.30pm at the Royal Albert Hall. If you aren't free until 5.30pm or later, we can put you on the final route between Marble Arch and the Chinese Embassy in Portland Place. It will finish around 6.30/7pm. But if you want to participate, it's very important to click this link and sign up now -- we have a limited number of places and we need to organise things precisely! "
