    Re: Next album?

Rosemary, you're ALWAYS talking to yourself, but don't worry, it's quite normal (isn't it, Buga?) (Yes Buga, it is...). Where do you find the time to scour the vast web to find your info?

I have to admit, since the demise of the old box and a reluctance to trawl for another, I've been enjoying such tactile pursuits as weeding and making my first jumper (half a sleeve to go!!)... hell, I might even get the oud out of its coffin and torment the neighbourhood (as with any fretless instrument, in my - thankfully - limited exprience, it takes a while to find the precise location of the notes.... and a while longer to memorise them... this is usually followed by a relatively silent period of 'reflection' as I struggle to think of something to play.... then remember that, whatever it is, I cannot play it .... and finally, after much pondering, I admit defeat and return the oud to its eternal resting place).... or perhaps not.  Anyway,  I have to say, I'm happy to leave the fact-finding to others. It's a beautiful day and I'm torn between kirpi and knitting.... certainly, I'm determined not to spend a second more in this tacky little 'cafe', with its sticky keys, comatosed mice and the aroma of a dead man's armpit! Regarding the arrival of the forthcoming album well, they have a wonderful saying in Jamaica..... "Soon come".

    Re: Next album?

I know you are listening Beverley, it would just be good if there were more people on the forum.  Not necessarily to talk to me - they could talk to each other.

If Buga thinks I am spending hours scouring the net - she couldn't be further from the truth.  Just every now I do a search with a slight variation in the wording - and find the stuff I have been posting.  I have been getting fitter for the new year (more walking to add to the yoga class). pruning and making cards.  Not to mention running round doing far too many group sessions at work.

As for the Jamaican saying, is it like the Biblical Maranatha - come soon, or like the German waiters' expression "Es kommt sofort"? which every one knows isn't really immediately - your meal will emerge in about 20 minutes.

    Re: Next album?

    Hey Rosemary...

Thanks for the groovy links..enjoyed checking these people out and building the album in my head as a result.

As I posted in the 'Collaborations> Nitin and McCartney' section just now, hearing rumours around London that suggest that promotional support arrangements are underway Must stress I have heard no solid evidence but I'm fairly convinced as of one conversation last week that there's a McCartney/Nitin release co-ordination in the pipeline because each of them is on the other's forthcoming project (Nitin involved with the next 'Fireman' project due anytime).

I suspect that one person, Radio 1's Bobby Friction is the one with all the know as his name has cropped up as the media's Nitinmaniac Numero Uno. I've exchanged a few emails with him in the last year so will try to squeeze some info (unless of course, he's reading this, as is highly possible in which case "SPILL IT, Friction!" :-)

    Re: Next album?

That's great!  I've found the Amazon page - no details of album content as yet.  kcb - is the teletext on the TV rather than the website?  I've no chance of looking for this when Euro 2008 football is on the television.

I'm relieved actually that it is not before 22nd September when my son needs transporting back to university.

    Re: Next album?

Hmmm...... double posting again - my vote goes for 13th October - see below

    NITIN SAWHNEY ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM
Nitin Sawhney will release his new album, entitled 'London Undersound', on 13 Oct, via Positiv-ID. The album will feature guest appearances from a number of artists, including Natty, Ojos De Brujo, Anoushka Shankar, Imogen Heap, and Paul McCartney, with artwork designed by Antony Gormley.

Speaking about the album, Sawnhey said: "Everyday is full of representations - from politicians, the media and the power of rumour. From bizarre justifications for war to issues of race, nationality, religion and cultural identity, we are saturated constantly with information and second hand opinion. On 7/7/2005 a bomb exploded on a London bus. A singer and friend of mine, Natty, was there. Two weeks later he was present at the shooting of a Brazillian man - Jean Charles De Menezes. Last year we wrote a song together. Natty, like myself, feels something indefinable has shifted. London's heartbeat has changed. Within that heartbeat there lies a feeling, a collective consciousness, the uniting hum of disparate voices waiting to be heard ... A sound. This is a collection of thoughts, ideas, feelings and catharsis in a city of immense diversity, imagination and beliefs. This is an album of collaboration ... to capture the London I know".

    www.cmumusicnetwork.co.uk/htmldaily/080626.html#08

I must say I had my suspicions about Natty as he cites Nitin as one of his influences on his my space page.  But I was still looking for confirmation until today.

    Re: Next album?

    So you have!

And rather a long list of collaborators too.... his longest, I'm sure!

And the ever-amazing Mr. Gormley has done the cover - I can't help wondering if all the pictures will be drawings or if  Mr. G. made a bodycast of our hero...maybe even a bronze?  It has been a few years since we last saw Mr. Sawhney plastered, at any rate.... 9 years? Maybe, in October, we may find ourselves with a new Horizon and lots of lifesize Nitins gracing the London skyline.....hmmm........ Yes
