Problems Getting Registered???
Ah yes! Rosemary, I think I may know why your german friend is having problems registering, not to mention other poor souls!
Could it be that none of you can see the confirmation code image???
I ask because, I tried registering as a new member, to see what the problem might be, and only got that far. If anyone else trying to register has had the same problem, it means that, unless you're already registered, you can't write on the forum to say so, can you!!!!
Question is, what to do next about this.... I know....
.....................TECHIIIIIIIEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
Ah, further investigation reveals that the confirmation code image is what is meant by "Visual Confirmation" which is there (when functioning!!!) to prevent adbots! OK. OK. I'm just learning as I go along! ops: So, it looks like your VC needs resetting Mr. Sawhney! Found couple of links which may prove helpful?

Re: Problems Getting Registered???
Well at least we know what the problem is, so hopefully it won't be too long before it is sorted out.

Re: Problems Getting Registered???
Well, Rosemary, it looks like the techies must have migrated to overwinter in some far-flung corner of the world before any of them could be persuaded to sort out the VC problem! Or perhaps they're busying themselves with intriguing little projects of their own.... I stumbled across "Circuit Bending", while looking for instructions to make something far less exciting! After watching Justin on the 'how to' podcast at makezine.com, I clicked the link to the following site to see what else is going on out there in rebel geek world!
http://bplr.com/circuits_master_china.htm
Not sure if it would be Mr. Sawhney's thing but, Calme, on the other hand....!

Re: Problems Getting Registered???
Well if the techies have migrated, they must be swallows who have migrated to Africa, as Scandinavian birds overwinter in the UK. Could be bad news, as they return in the Spring - sometime in May.
On my more optimistic days, I think that the site will be undergoing a complete remodelling, with the dates, news and gigs section linking directly to threads on the forum. Ah well .....
Yet we are not quite on our own, there are two other people on this site as I type, perhaps plaintively wailing "let me in"
Ah well .......
I couldn't get any sound on your new link - despite having Quick Time. I know Quick time works on my computer as I was playing CD/DVD through it earlier this week.
Here's an interesting piece of news from Wales
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/6280527.stm
I was drinking (orange juice) in one of the other hotels they own earlier in the week - is run by Welsh speakers. Good atmosphere - music loud enough to listen to if you want, quiet enough to ignore .....

Re: Problems Getting Registered???
Years ago, I decided to stay in a backpackers hostel just to see what it was like. After a few days there, while I was playing pool with one of my room mates, I noticed that he was frowning while I was talking. I was ready to dismiss it as being quite a natural reaction when he suddenly blurted out "Where are you from?!!?" "Here." I replied. He was amazed! Apparently, he'd been trying to place my accent.... I also found myself having to explain to the same person that the piercing screams in the dead of night was actually a vixen, otherwise engaged, which prompted the question, "Is it really true that people here still hunt foxes and wear bright red jackets?"
As for the rise in racism in this country, I just despair. In less than two weeks, I've experienced two separate incidents where I've had conversations with people who proclaimed, "I'm not a racist but -", and complained that, "The trouble is that everything has to be PC. Nowadays, people are too afraid to open their mouths and say what they really think".... but then, I got to hear what they really thought anyway.... and it was just the same old media-scripted, race-hate poison. When it's someone you don't particularly give a damn about, it's upsetting enough - when it's someone that you admired as a person, it's heartbreaking.
On the 'UP' side, my mission to rid the world of B&W Minstrel records notched up another successful annihilation last week! It was only my third but, to have only ever come across 3 such albums in my entire life is something of a relief. The first two I destroyed by simply snapping them but on this occasion, and after much, fruitless bending, I realised that I was getting nowhere with it and would have to go for an alternative method of destruction. It's amazing how much damage can be done by placing a record on the pavement and shuffling it around a bit. I also had an 'accomplice' who was kind enough to tear up the album cover. She declined the offer of the vinyl-snapping (just as well really!) but was more than happy to 'shuffle' it after I'd done one side and flipped it over! OK, even if she continues with this mission herself (I've no idea who she was!), that still means that only two of us are at it but, it's also true to say that the number of people undertaking the mission has literally doubled!!!
Anyway, could I have strayed any further off topic??? Probably not!

Buga, you obviously didn't watch the TV programme "Magpie" when you were a child. They came up with a novel way of making a retro plant pot holder by heating a vinyl album. Damage and recycling in one fell swoop.
On the subject or racism, had you noticed the Independent recently? They are tipping the balance against the anti asylum seeker bias of the press by publishing stories of asylum seekers who did not deserve to be deported.

Re: Problems Getting Registered???
I remember making a 'fruitbowl' (well that's what we decided to call it!) closely followed by the 7" version, which was soon after referred to as an ashtray (yes, I know, I know..... ) (...and, no, I don't....). Of the two, the fruitbowl was more practical and worked perfectly well as long as we remembered to eat the fruit and not forget about it. The ashtray on the otherhand worked fine as long as you didn't move it and didn't leave anything burning in the bottom....
Never watched Magpie when I was a kid - forced to watch Blue Peter instead and, as any fool will tell you, there's only so much you can do with a yoghurt carton and some sticky-back plastic!

Now that's a bit unfair on Blue Peter - they used paper mache and paint. I distinctly remember my husband spending many happy (?) hours making a model of Tracy Island (Thunderbirds) for our son.
And they cooked as well .....

Ahem, Rosemary, isn't your son a little - how shall I put this - too old for a Tracy Island model? I'm sure that you both meant well, naturally, and certainly, I doubt that any of his friends would have been given the same thing to celebrate passing their exams, but .....

... but he wasn't at the time ...... and it might be premature to talk about passing exams, with the lack of work he is doing at the moment.
On the topic of making things, you might be interested in the Guardian guides - currently in a monthly session of crafts at http://lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/guides under the section "Things to Make and Do" (nothing to do with Moloko album of same name). One of the fun things to do is a cut out cardboard coffee table - wondering if we could do the same with cardboard and make a model of Mr S.

Re: Problems Getting Registered???
Well Rosemary, having had a chance to sleep on it, I woke up with a couple of suggestions as to what to do with your cardboard cutout.
Suggestion No.1
* Take cardboard cutout with you whenever you go to a cinema or concert venue.
* Place as close to stage/screen as possible.
* 'Whisper' loudly something like, "Isn't that the very talented Mr. Sawhney?"
* Keep this up until someone actually goes up to 'silhouette' and politely taps it on the shoulder....
Suggestion No.2
* After you have made your cardboard cut out, stick a label on one side with instructions for the recipient to mail it on.
* Address it to a friend ( ).
* Slap on a couple of stamps and pop it in the post.
Hopefully your friend ( ) will follow the instructions to the letter ( ) and send it on to someone else. In theory, if every recipient follows the instructions then it might be possible for your cardboard cutout Mr. Sawhney to circle the planet several times and, who knows, it might even turn up on HIS doormat!
As for how you smuggle a lifesize cutout into the venues for my first suggestion, you'll have to work it out for yourself....

Re: Problems Getting Registered???
I thought we had been through the multiple Mr Sawhney thing already, although I guess a cardboard cutout is better than multiple virtual Mr Sawney's that can only be accessed by some form of technology. For those of us not so technologically minded perhaps a 6 footish cardboard cutout landing on the mat with the rest of the post is not such a bad thought Although having said that I know my letterbox or the doormat just won't accomdate him!! Will he therefore have to stand outside in the snow till we all get home? Or perhaps in the sweltering heat of the summer? Will he be in character- the evil fighting, peacemaker as on the videogame- or is it jeans and trainers? Whatever it is, have a seat on the doorstep, shouldn't be too long!
