    Twelfth Night in Toronto

A screening of 2003's "Twelfth Night", scored by Nitin, was shown the past 2 nights as part of the Luminato festival here in Toronto.

Nitin appeared, along with director Tim Supple, who is directing "A Midsummer's Night Dream" at the festival,  for a short Q & A after the screening last night. They renewed acquaintances after all those years.

The movie, which starred Parminder Nagra, of "Bend it Like Beckham" and the new "Batman" film, is a modern day multicultural version of Shakespeare's play. It was quite good. I guess starting with the Bard's words would help any film! Shakespeare kills me with his misdirections, mischief & humour.

Both Nitin & Tim spoke about the moment frozen in time that defines a movie, and how theatre & music are different in that performances can change & evolve over time. Nitin said that, now, after hearing his music choices again he may have done them differently.

The Indian based themes played well with this production, setting great moods.

The song "Waiting ( O Mistress Mine )" from HUMAN was featured in the movie, sung by Zubin Varla, who played the role of Feste, the fool. It was perfect for the movie, working as well on the screen as it does from your speakers. And again, having Shakespeare as your lyricist...well how can you go wrong!

Nitin talked about writing music for a dance production. I didn't catch the name and was hoping you could help me with this.

I'm looking forward to Friday night's A THROW OF DICE and Saturday's club night. Hope you can make it out to these shows. 1 of a kind nights for Toronto!

I reeeeeeeealllly wanted to see this, but ended up going out of town last weekend.

Nitin's written for a number of dance pieces. Do you remember if he was talking about his most recent project? It was probably Bahok, choreographed by Akram Khan.

Maybe NS.com can offer DVDs in a special deal to forum members Smile Can you put a good word in Beverly?! Mr. Green

I went to see 'Bahok' this week. I absolutely loved it. The dance was intensely expressive and Nitin 's music was, as always, utterly impressive.

There were Chinese sounds and some electronica bits. I should have written sooner as it's less fresh for me now. I remember one stunning bit where 1 dancer was holding another, dancing together, lit to appear like a creative flower expression where it was hard to tell it was made by two people. This kind of fusion refected the whole music/dance synergy where it flowed effortlessly!

    Well done! Yes

I would love to know about the creative process for this ~ seemed like the choreography and music were created simultaneously...??? Hope you continue to work with Akram Khan: it just gets better!!

PS the vid on the making of Bahok in the members only section is v cool
