    remixes

    all of the missing ones...
  •  Aug 19, 2004, 0:12 5 in reply to 4

    Re: remixes

Why oh why can't record companies stop mucking about with the formats issue.

I have just looked at Nitin's new remixes project, and to my complete dismay the record company have decided to do that old chesnut of releasing some unreleased remixes on the 2LP vinyl edition & some other unreleased remixes on the CD version!! Hence, to have ALL those lovely new audio versions, you have to buy BOTH the bloody formats!

Now call me a bit cynical here, but why can't we --the fans-- be treated with a bit more respect by the record co. and be given all of them on each format: vinyl for the DJ/vinyl lovers/collectors; CD for the home listener??

To cap it all, some of the remixes on the vinyl edition are easy to find remixes on the official releases which most of us already own from when they first came out! And if not they can be found on vinyl easily enough via the net/2nd hand shops circuit.

Does anyone else feel a little pissed off about this...I know i'm not the only one.

NOTE (to RECORD Co. -- V2 in this case!):
To resolve this issue can you chuck out a bonus 12" with the extra unreleased mixes on?? It's cheap to do, and keeps us all happy --you get the extra cash, we get the extra versions-- what could be simpler!
    PLEASE
    PLEASE
PLEASE (WITH A CHERRY ON TOP!)

    Merci,
    A Bientot!
    Jim

    Re: remixes

I totally agree with you on this issue mate.

I mean it's not like it's difficult to do a 3LP is it!
How many of the independant labels do 3,4, or even 5LP editions to cater for the vinyl peoples (inc. me!) out here. A lot, is the answer.

I join the list here for an extra slice of vinyl please mr/ms record comp.

    Peace

    Re: remixes

You must have just received the email through about this new forum too!

11 Sunset - London Elektricity Mix
12 Moonrise - Joe Clausell Mix
    +
(bonus CD inc. exclusive Nitin dj mix)

(NB: If you notice there are 2 seperate Aaron Jerome remixes!)

What woud be good is if they put a seperate sampler 12" out with the following on it:
    1) The River - Aaron Jerome Mix
    2) Lately - Nasha Experience
    3) Moonrise - Joe Clausell Mix -->this is AMAZING, why not on vinyl...?!?!
    +
    4) Homelands - Freeform Five Mix, perhaps another copy of this for good measure. It is the BOMB - wait until you 'ear dis!! wha wha wicked -just like their Bootilicious remix of Destiny's Child which never came out ...again why i just dunno (perhaps 'it doesn't market the group to the correct target audience...' bizniz) !

If you agree, put a note on this post, peoples power or persistance...

    Re: remixes

    I concure with the above.

Blimey, jimthing you certainly followed that up quickly!
But i do aggree with u on this tho bro.
Great for the sampler 12". Though I would buy it along with the 2xLP, I don't think that V2 would bother to do it for the fans though!
Especially when they think they have a double sale on the release.

I'm not gonna buy the CD just to suit record comp. sales figures. no sir-ee!! It makes me angry enough that Nitin would accept this form of behavour from his record co. in the beginning!

Hope others make their views known on this too.

    Cool

    Re: remixes

    Dear Fans,

Firstly, it's good to get everyone back online. Thanks for posting your messages, views, and concerns.

Let me tell you a little about the remix album formats. I hope this goes someway to answer your posts:

    1. The only EXCLUSIVE, unreleased remix that does not appear on the CD package, but that is on the 12" pack is the Aaron Jerome remix of "Eastern Eyes." ALL of the other previously unreleased remixes are availble on the CD format.

    2. The only exclusive, unreleased remix that does not appear on the vinyl, but that is on the CD package is Aaron Jerome's remix of "The River."

    3. Mixes by Quantic, AtJazz, Joe Clausell, London Elektricity, and Landslide have ALREADY been released on vinyl, and hence we chose the exclusives for the 12" package (with the ONLY exception being MJ Cole's mix of "Sunset". Also, Ges-e's mix of "Lately" only ever came out in the UK on a promo white label of which only 50 were ever pressed - so we put it onto commercial vinyl)!

    4. CD2 contains the exclusive, unreleased mixes by Ninja Tune's Fink ("Prophesy") and Spain's Ojos de Brujo ("Aquired Dreams.")

I hope this helps to clarify matters for you all. Please reply if you have any further concerns or queries you want me to address.

    Keep em coming....

    Re: remixes

Thanks for the reply Sumit. I'm not slagging you off on this issue.
It's just that it really starts to grate people when we are given 1 or 2 tracks different to each format all the time from the labels.

    Moonrise - Joe Clausell mix
    (link: http://www.waxrecords.com/store/getTracks.asp?albumID=2383&trackID=6976)
This was put out on a few vinyl formats, which I just found out after checking the net. I was mistaken on my view that this hadn't been released. Though on reflection it is unsuprising, due to the highly limited pressings, that I managed to miss them.
    1) Firstly, B-side of TIDES on a v.v.lim.ed. Spiritual Life 12"-SLM 396 (never even seen, couldn't find copy on the net!)
    2) Second, on a promo (i think it was the PROMO?) of the single Cold & Intimate (again, I missed this?!)
    3) Third, on a compilation EP on Simply Vinyl called "Jazzy House".

The River - Aaron Jerome mix
However, this would be lovely on a slice of vinyl, Sumit. I haven't heard it, but if it is like his other remix it should be a nice thing to play out with.
(Yes I know CD decks are everywhere, but let's just say I love the idea of having things on vinyl OK !)

    Lately - Nasha Experience
Again, this still needs the vinyl pressure as I'm pretty sure no vinyl of this came, unless you know better !

    Homelands - Freeform Five mix
    (link: http://217.158.65.110/MP3/SF143024-01-01-03.mp3)
OK this is on the 2LP, I conceed. I'll have to check the pressing though before i'm convinced it doesn't warrent a side of plastic of it's very own ...god am I a fussy bugger (...erm yes) !

Homelands - Dzihan & Kamien mix -- from Fabric mix CD
    (link: http://217.158.65.110/MP3/SF143024-01-01-04.mp3)
No seperate release at all for this... VINYL or CD ??

Koop-Relaxing At Club Fusion - Nitin Sawhney edit -- from Fabric mix CD
    (link: http://217.158.65.110/MP3/SF143024-01-01-01.mp3)
Nitin has basically overdubbed some percusion & vocal effects over the main version, but boy I do L.O.V.E. what he has done here on this version!
...check out the link for proof folks.

Nice idea to release Lately (Ges-e & Visionary Underground mix) on the 2LP cause I don't think many will have heard it from a 50 piece pressing somehow?! So thanks for that.

With all the good remixes Nitin himself has done, I sense a Nitin 'remixes of others' compilation coming on ...and a good job too in my humble opinion!

Join the 'I want more vinyl please' society now, just ask & all will be revealed...

    Gracias,
    Jim

    Re: remixes

I just read the email I got sent yesterday so i'm a bit late on this one.
Thanks for the sample links Jim -nice one!

After reading all of the above messages i recon it would be good to put out the following on a seperate 12 or 2x10 or sumin'...even a message board promo, ha-ha!!

    Definate for vinyl please:
-The River (Aaron Jerome mix) -->i've only heard his other mix too, if it's as good then why not hey?
-Homelands (Dzihan & Kamien mix) -->I really rate this prod. team!
-Koop-'Relaxing At Club Fusion' (Nitin Sawhney edit) -->from the Fabric mix CD i got recently. If they can licence it from JCR then why not man! I think this actually ADDS to the feel of the original. **Vinyl alert**

    Perhaps:
-Lately (Nasha Experience) -->I haven't got this either, so perhaps..
-Moonrise (Joe Clausell mix) -->I have been lookin for the Spiritual Life 12" for sooooooooo long (limited is an understatment!)
-Homelands (Freeform Five) -->this is on the 2LP, but if it is as good as their Destiny's Child-Bootilicious rmx then, as you said Jim, give it a side on it's own for those of us that like the vinyl stuff.

Love the Nitin sound anyhow, even his remixes are of quality rather than fillers for vinyl releases! I rate his Mondo Grosso rmx, his Cheb Khaled, his Mandalay-'Deep Love', oh yeah and the Koop one mentioned above is wicked as said before!
Hey, how about a 4LP remixes his done of others, that would be spectacular!!! Perhaps with original rareties mixed in too.

But in the meantime just those bonus cuts on a piece would be of use to us fans out here.
Sod-off digital downloading too. I think hard formats are nice with artwork and everything included. Searching for the vinyl (or sometimes CD) in racks on a weekend is just the best feeling when a vital sum-a-ting pops-up in front of your eyes that you can't quite believe after looking for so very long a time! Man you can't beat it, nope, never.

    Cheers-me-dears,
    Nik

    Re: remixes

Yeah jimthing, you got it down on this man!
Why do rec. co's never do the bisnis on remixes.
Always trying to palm us off with trks missing on the official release, but giving the dj only promo's double packs of mixes!

I know there is a financial constraint here, you know like the average guy in the street won't pay extra for the 2nd 12 in a double pack idea.
But look what they did for Rainfall, released on 2 SEPERATE promo 12's ahead of the official chart one.

But samplers are released all the time these days, so i don't see the problem. It don't need to be a massive pressing or anything.

Anyway Sumit can you let us know if you are gonna do something like this on a promo only if it comes. Nice one!

    Re: remixes

i must be the only one here who collects both! for me this is a gift from god

    Re: remixes

I have to agree with Jimthing's idea.
We love the vinyl here in the UK, hence why we produce so much of the stuff overall compared with the rest of the European countries combined.
Though Germany+France do quite a bit too, to be fair!

Those missing trks would be nice on the vinyl sampler, if it's possible...
I'd certainly get it (or try to find a copy at least, if it was LIMITED or somthing like that!)
That Koop remix/re-edit is BRILLIANT (!), thanks for the soundsample above Jim! It adds just a different something to the original -sublime!!

Bibi -you shouldn't have to buy both. That's the point all the rest of us are getting at here I think!

Nitin is a talented man, that's for sure.
    Thanks for the great music.

    Re: remixes

I agree with most of the above.

WESTON has the tracks nailed down for vinylization
    (now there's a word you don't hear often 'vinyl-iz-a-tion' )

I with cash for Nitin releases. Loved the BITA rmx, & Aaron Jerome does this kind of sound recently, as well as his more soulful deep house remixes. All good no filler!

Hey Sumit (Nitin's Manager), gizz-uzz-dem-remix ! erm please (maners and all that stuff...)

    ta-taa,

    Kerri

    Re: remixes

Can't wait for the 2LP (not gonna buy the CD just for the other trks -- mr. record co.!!). Though I would buy that sampler, when it comes. Sorry ,IF...

The Homelands - Dzihan & Kamien mix - from Fabric CD
How come no release at all for this on any format ??
Me like there stuff a lot, BIG TIME!!

I also rate that Homlands - Freeform rmx & Nitin's re-edit thing of Koop's - Relaxing At Club Fusion --Wicked edit definately !

Sumit....if you could (see previous reply).......
I think Kerri's 'gizz-uzz-dem-remix' means 'excuse me my good fellow would you mind awefully giving one those remixes please' (for the non Jamaican speakers on the board !!).
That reminds me of Goodness Gracious Me, and the Kumars (was it ??)/Koopers sketch.
... can't quite remember, it was a while ago now!

Thankyou & Goodnight ............. tasha XX
