best thing to do really is to start learning bengali coz when translated, it may not sound correct at all.

    Re: The Boatman

I gave it to someone I know to translate but we fell out so think I have to write off that source.. - I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that could translate Would be much appreciated! I think it's in Bengali and I would love to learn the language, I think it's very beautiful, but right now I don't have time... I have a feeling the song may be about destiny and being guided... but who knows! Shed some light?

    Re: The Boatman

Ok...i'll try to translate this as best as I can...some of the words in the lyrics on the album sleve isnt properly spelled out and I dont know the meaning of a couple of words..so this isn't perfect. The lyrics are more like a poetry and i tried to convey the meaning instead of doing a literal translation although it obviously makes more sense in Bengali.

(something) signifies that i dont know the meaning of the word. I can only wonder how the song sounds to someone who doesnt understand bengali but I must say that Jayanta Bose has an amazing voice. Here is the translation...

    The Boatman:

    (Something) caressed with love
I drifted ashore from the sea
The sand (something) shows a new way

The light mixes with the darkness
The wind is full of love
Who are you boatman who paddles this boat, whom i cannot see

    Re: The Boatman

Obviously something is lost in translation... but I think these differences are the beauty of language! Indian music is often very deep no? so I have a feeling from the song. Your meaning is really lovely and gives shape and pattern to my feeling !

    Thank - you very much.

I think Nitin would probably like this translation but don't think he's going to tell us...
