Hmmm... I've noticed a few of these posts on the site - just wondering whether the moderator can delete them (assuming there is a moderator).

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
Well, I just assumed it was just some prankster and really, I didn't think it would be fair to suggest removing someone else's posts - not so much the 'freedom to express y'self' kind of thing but more like 'who am I to judge' etc, given the nonsense I've posted !! However, since it appears to be not some individual exercising her/his sense of mischief and is just some automated non-entity....... MODERATOR!!!!!!!!!!! ...... there must be one somewhere, surely!
Incidently, today - sunny but the air was quite crisp with cold! Called for some creative layering in order to avoid looking like an over-stuffed toy ........ Oh yes and Santa's in town!

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
I've just checked the FAQ section and there is a reference to a moderator - I thought I hadn't dreamt it!
I'm on a board with over 10,000 registered members and we have a team of admin/moderators on that. Generally speaking people have a lot of freedom of speech but spam, helping people to write assignments, and abusive comments are not allowed. And sometimes threads are moved to a different section of the site.
Buga - you are brave going to town this near Christmas. I've kept well out of it this weekend - big gig on at the Millenium Stadium on Saturday, and Royal Variety Performance at the Wales Millenium Centre. I didn't see Santa - just the Archbishop!

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
Do you usually dream of moderators? I think it also says 'moderator' at the bottom of the index page but it's not much to go on...could be a decoy! No mention of a moderator in the memberlist but there is admin. Perhaps admin and moderator are one and the same, although there's not much evidence of either really.....
..... Santa on the other hand... I actually met him in Parliament Square. He looked very suspicious, thrusting flyers at bewildered tourists and my first thought was that he must be some political pamphleteer ( I came across a couple of larger-than-life Tory Groundhogs earlier this year, loitering outside a children's park .... and tongue-lashed them mercilessly .... well, given how their party had historically vilified pickets and public protests, it was just too easy!!!). I tried staring menacingly as I approached him but he didn't even flinch and, as soon as I was close enough, he said "I think I know what you're looking for!" and handed me one of his leaflets. And you know, Rosemary, he was right. For the first time in my entire life (not that I've been anywhere near his grotto for a good many years), Santa Claus knew exactly what I wanted!!! It was a leaflet advertising the event I was looking for. I was so taken, I had to stop myself from leaping on his knee - after all, I am a grown woman and not a little girl and besides, we were both standing so it would've looked ridiculous, if not unwholesome! So, that's how I met Santa and, as I followed his directions to the venue, I almost met a green elf but fortunately I managed to creep past it before my inner child could threaten to break loose again.
Still, life is full of surprises..... was the Archbishop gigging at the stadium or doing cabaret at the centre?

I frequently dream of all sorts of things This thread is way off topic, so perhaps just as well no moderator!
Inner child - I remember Santa's grotto in Rackhams in Birmingham! Although with the amount of music I listen to some people think I have an inner teenager instead.

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
Yeah, we have poodled off-topic but, (and I'm fairly confident about this) sooner or later a syrinx post will pop up, thereby bringing the whole, meandering, topic-veering thing back on track again ...... especially when it would seem that we don't have a MODERATOR!!! around to banish it!
Do you think that maybe, just to break away from the monotony of checking posts for offensive content, moderators might occasionally take on other jobs? It's just that, well, it could be pure coincidence but, doesn't it strike you as strange that, while we seem to have an absence of any moderators at the moment, there's a glut of green elves and stocky Santas out there?

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
The moderator is per chance foraging in the undergrowth for nesting and food. Lots of activity was evident in Regent?s Park over the weekend. Perhaps NS is with him- preparing for the winter slumber- although perhaps this may be upon us already, with no one moderating activity on the website. The rest is deserving- I am sure, after a busy time of it over the summer- but makes for a sleepy, zzzzzzzzzzzzz, website.
Unlike of course the work, far from sleepy- by the way congrats for the stint at the ?stop the war coalition? gig. It was a good night, and how much energy do the Rachid Taha band have- perhaps the moderator should take some of what they were on that night, he may not sleep ever again! And was Brian Eno singing in Arabic?
As far as Santa is concerned, I would suggest staying away from, what is probably now a very arthritic knee. His concern for people seems to be diminishing, as is evident from his recent appearance on the Tottenham Court Road- where he was spotted speeding in a bmw, thumping base, and a fag hanging out of his mouth, not to mention the pedestrians that he nearly trapped under his modern sleigh. Isn?t that the kinda thing Tony hands ASBO?s out for- and Santa is a hoodie- be it red and furry. Perhaps then it is Santa we should be warning- be weary of Tony!

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
Oh ?r?!
Thank you so much for solving the mystery of the missing Moderator ?.. or perhaps it might be more accurate to refer to him/her as the Lesser Spotted Moderator?? It?s perfectly plausible too that NS might also be found there, along with the rest of his crew, but I doubt very much that you?ll catching him napping.
Very likely, as Autumn began to make it?s presence felt, he helped collect nuts, seeds and berries for the winter store, and gathered old man?s beard and thistle down for bedding. Or, if these were in short supply, perhaps they hid behind park benches, waiting for pensioners to brave the autumnal sunshine and take a leisurely stroll, only to be overcome by the uncompromising heat and flake out on the nearest seat. Thus affording the Lesser Spotted Moderator, the equally timid Mr. S, et al, the opportunity to tiptoe silently up to the silver-haired snoozers and, ever-so-gently tug out only the finest and softest of nasal hairs ( wisely avoiding the longer, coarser, deep-rooted hairs which, as you can imagine, would hurt like hell if tweaked, causing the dear pensioner to wake immediately in a pain-induced panic and instinctively head-butt the would-be nose hair thief?). Then, once he?d made sure that everyone had enough food and bottled water (of course!), a soft, fluffy bed and a pile of leaves to snuggle under, he probably feigned sleep himself, only to rise again later, when the ethereal whisper of snuffles and airy whistles finally rose to a sonorous chorus of hoots and grunts, signifying the communal, comatosed state of the NS crew?.and the lesser spotted moderator.
Perhaps the activity you heard in the park was not the moderator but quite possibly Mr. S. himself, crouched behind the bushes with a notepad and a stylophone, working on his next album or film score, or composing a stiff missive to the editor of The Standard, complaining bitterly about those thoughtless dog-owners who allow their brainless mutts to run amok in the park, pausing only to cock a leg at or squat over every leaf pile, without exception?.. and occasionally sneaking off into the heart of the Rat Metropolis to DJ (Mr. S. that is, not the dogs) .....
Yes, it?s amazing what you come across in London parks at this time of year (and cemeteries ? last weekend, ours boasted a Santa?s Grotto, would you believe - child psychiatrists this side of London will be kicking off the new year with a heavier than usual workload!) ? but a word of caution ?r? ? come the vernal equinox, it might be safer to stick to the pathways, or at least distance yourself from, and preferably stay upwind of any stirring leaf-piles?.especially the damp ones?..
As for Santa, well now, evidently there must be more than one Santa in existence! Ok, hardly newsworthy and far from being a ?Eureka!? moment I know but, well you see, your Santa may well be pretty much what I?d come to expect too ? hence I was wary in the extreme when I spotted one, believe me (especially given the location ?.. briefly crossed my mind that it could?ve been an undercover, trigger-happy, murderous pig looking for anyone behaving ?suspiciously? ? you know, walking/breathing/blinking ??.). However, this particular St. Nick was the very antithesis of the high street variety. He was out there all that weekend, frost-bitten sleigh bells be damned, leafleting on behalf of Fair Trade!!!!!
Much love and a merry one

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
In the absence of the moderator, perhaps we should take over moderation-in moderation-while they are sleeping anyway! Buga's beady eye for spam is already active, and we would probably be able to update the events side of things more successfully the website is currently doing! Not that I am suggesting a coup d'etat or anything- just ideas to make the website more informative, so that people can get tickets before gigs are sold out! what d'ya reckon?

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
You mean, sort of like a ?locum? moderator? It?s a little "Fun Boy Three"!!!
Perhaps you could share the moderating with Aakash, who succeeded in ousting a young pretender last year with his no-nonsense banter ( ?ok, can't the moderators do sumtin about this cat??? he's already poopin' up the board.?) and maybe, while you and Rosemary and others keep us informed on happenings this side of the pond, Aakash could continue his campaign for a US tour, by posting gig reviews for a fictional one . Sawhorse, I?m sure, would be more than happy to specialise on posts about Miss Solomon(!!!!!!) and Danoush has always been generous with his knowledge when it comes to helping others with chords and lyrics. Maybe Calme too, could share some of her tips on songwriting etc with aspiring musos, while Rosemary could offer advice on career alternatives for jaded ones!!!
Yep! The moderator could continue to sleep undisturbed in a thicket somewhere, dreaming of paperclips and Post-it notes (bless!) and dear Mr. S. would be free to solve the riddles of the universe or, at least, come up with a half-decent camel joke ???..
Can?t think of a better way to kick off a new year than with a great idea and you?ve definitely come up with one for this year, 'r'!!!

I think I should point out that I also - in my day job - give careers advice to BTEC Music students, and not just jaded musos!
I've also just noticed that at the top of each forum topic it says "Moderator - None". Anyone know who "none" is

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
Wow!!!
Rosemary, you are a canny lass to notice None but have you also noticed that the same name comes up again after "Users browsing this forum" ..... very strange...what could it mean?
Also, there's the somewhat unnerving emails from Nobody...Who is this Nobody (could be anybody)? Could Nobody and None be one and the same? It's all just a little bit sinister ........ especially when the emails are always signed "The Management" ..... None, Nobody, The Management? They sound like they stepped out of a Quentin Tarantino movie 8) ! You don't think that Mr. S. has been mingling with a similar crowd to the one that the young Frank Sinatra hung out with, do you?
Hmmmmmmmmm...misterioso Signor Sawhney!
Ciao!

Re: Spam, spam, spam, spam.............
(What's going on?)... ooh... pah, pah, pah, pah....
Sorry, got a bit carried away.... be grateful that you can't hear me sing.
I've managed to hold back from mentioning this for 3 months now, but I've noticed that ... ooh... (no, it's ok, I'm not singing this time) there seems to be a growing number of "2Rulez-" enlisting and, while Mr. Sawhney has undoubtedly achieved global appeal, is he REALLY that popular in Mongolia???
