    Nitin Interview

I found this and thought I'd share -- pretty interesting (is there anything the man doesn't do??)

    Re: Nitin Interview

He is certainly multi-talented.  I think the reviewer must have been reading this forum because he talked about several/virtual Nitins - we have discussed this more than once here.

Hey Nuwanda! The man also does radio!!!

It's the time of year when communications between myself and my friends revolves around tents, travel arrangements and tickets (I learnt this evening that one of my camping buddies keeps hers in a safe...). Yeah, it's Womad time again - let the kaftans out of the closet! This year we are considering turning the gazebo into a shrine dedicated to Gods and/or Goddesses of dry weather.... we don't actually know of any so much googling needed to be done, but if YOU know of any, please post a reply before Thursday! Anyway, turns out we're not the only ones with the W word on our minds, the man himself could be heard talking about the history of that very same festival on Radio 4 yesterday!  I managed to catch it halfway through in realtime but was able to enjoy it in the whole, later in the evening, through the magic of the radio player link!  And you know what ? He's pretty good at the old radio prog' presenting business too...." Is there anything the man doesn't do??"- you may well ask, Nuwanda!  Mind you, during the course of the programme, food was mentioned  - or more to the point, the fact that, at Womad fest's in other locations, they had introduced food workshops with musicians demonstrating what they come up with in the kitchen.... that had me wondering.... what would the multi-faceted one produce in the way of culinary delights? Would he rustle up a suptuous banquet without a moment's hesitation? Or, would he start with "Take one microwave and a ready meal..." or simply hand out take-away menus??? What are the odds of his being, on top of everything else, a gastronomic genius to boot!

Anyway, should anyone happen to pass this way and was not able to hear Mr. S. expounding on air yesterday, the following link should get you threre - just scroll down the page to "World of Womad"

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/radioplayer_holding.shtml

Incase, albeit even less likely but you never know, anyone  a/ passes this way b/ loves listening to music from other cultures but isn't able to go to Womad but c/ lives in London or as near as damn it, this very same weekend there's also the Diaspora London Music Village 2007, organised by Cultural Co-operation, which opens with a performance from one Yusuf Mahmoud, a tabla-player from Afghanistan who will totally pop your cork!

Re: The man also does radio!!!but perhaps not a dab hand with a wok?

My family rather "helpfully" told me that this programme was on, after it had been broadcast.  I'm going to try and catch it on the "listen again".

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Nitin does not really enjoy cooking - was a bit of a pasta or take away person.  But also that he was trying to eat more healthily - more vegetarian stuff.  In the Sunday Times he confessed to a weakness for chocolate (haven't we all got the same weakness)?

Sorry about double posting - probably my last contribution for 10 days.  The Womad programme is repeated on Radio 4 on Saturday 28th July between 1530 and 1600 BST

Re: The man also does radio!!!but perhaps not a dab hand with a wok?

Wait a minute! Someone has written about the man's diet??? That's ridiculous!  Why seriously write about something like that, unless they were trying to make some link between food and ..... oh hell, it's started raining outside and I've got to catch a train to the back of beyond and pitch a tent in it!!! Sorry, food and creativity.... other than that, it would be a bit "Hello" (as in the magazine!)wouldn't it. Maybe there is a link, after all, cocoa  is a 'superfood', isn't it?  Personally,  I'm not particularly bothered about chocolate... though I'm sure that not eating enough of the stuff would strictly qualify as a reason for my total lack of musical output!

Good to see some new blood on the boards btw!!! Big Smile

Anyway, I'm off - enjoy the re-run... never knew he was such an 'authority' on Womad but, hey, ya learn something new everyday!

    Re: Super..... radio show

Aren't you in luck Rhian! Been meaning to mention this in a post but kept forgetting... Zero Degrees is returning to Sadlers Wells yet again, from October 16th - 20th.  Kept seeing the poster outside the theatre on my way home from work but, by the time I'd got home, I'd forgotten all about it!

I'm going to 'update' my avatar yet again - hope you like it. Perhaps I should point out that the cat is up to its ears in mud, not chocolate, or anything else .... there's only so much that can be done with the Paint program!
