Post Bank Holiday Blues? I think I know of a cure....

IndifferentHello! And is everyone suffering from post-Bank Hol's blues? Never mind....

....Beverly, do you have Bank Holidays on your side of the pond? Perhaps....or perhaps not... You know, it's a pity you couldn't just paddle across to ol' Blighty and make your way to London and, it's a pity that you couldn't do that AND find yourself in Trafalgar Square this Thursday evening to watch the open-air screening of "A Throw of Dice" with his nibs and friends providing the music ........ Indifferentyes, poor Beverly! Missing out again sweetie... time to migrate perhaps..... Mind you, if you didn't have a bank holiday then you won't have the post-holiday blues to get over...

.....Anyway, I wouldn't dream of writing a post, just to mention yet another event you'll miss out on - I mean, that would be like rubbing your nose in it and that would be a terrible, terrible thing to do, Beverly, and far be it for Buga to be so wicked ...... especially as you're probably still weeping buckets over missing the out on the Proms .... poor, poor Beverly......

IdeaI know! How about it if I go along to Trafalgar Square and, maybe a few others will go too and we could all report back to the forum on how brilliant it was? Yes and, if enough people go and then write about it why, it would almost feel like you'd been there yourself.... almost...... poor Beverly....... Huh?

Re: Post Bank Holiday Blues? Or livening up half term. Another outing for Throw of the Dice

    Beverly,

Buga is famed for her alfresco picnics.  I believe she enjoyed the music whilst nibbling away on various  delicacies on a balmy Thursday evening in August.

I notice that there are going to be more screenings - just wondering if I can make it up to Birmingham - I could be home by 1pm if I drove back.  Or I could stay overnight and carry on to visit my parents!  I'm glad to see this has been put on the main events page - I found it last night on the net and was going to ask if it was going to be listed.  On the last version site a number of gigs and events never found it to the main page.  I suppose you can count this as positive website feedback - maybe I should have started a new topic!

    Please...could we not mention food?

Just recovering from ghastly encounter with a dodgy take away... yes, Ick! indeed but, after a 48 hour fast, I grazed nervously on two apples last night and by lunchtime today I managed to tuck into a small pear, two soya yoghurts, six grapes, three strawberries and two sips of herbal tea...and started to feel a bit Ick! again. However, I was determined to see the day through and sure enough, the nausea passed and tonight I managed to down some steamed greens and runner beans with some liquorice for, erm, 'dessert'..... it's like reading the diary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, isn't it... Anyway, as lovely as the picnic was (aren't all picnics alfresco?), I can't take all the credit as it was a combined effort and besides, both my friend and I cheated and bought pre-prepared stuff but also, if you don't mind, could we avoid any food references or at least refrain from mentioning anything 'savoury'.  I can cope with simple fruit and veg references and, obviously liquorice is fine to discuss but, definitely not savoury and, oh god, no oily food references either please! ( Or rice - do not mention rice.)

So, yes, sorry Beverly, but you find me as self-obsessed as ever. The film? Well for a start there were certainly more than two of us there that night and, the rest of the audience did not look like they were lost tourists either. Perhaps they were too awestruck to put anything into words! Well, we were one big, happy crowd, huddled on the pavingstones and gazing wistfully up at the big screen. It felt like a far more laid-back affair, compared to the premier at the Barbican - this time round there was much ad libbing, cheering, giggling but not enough to spoil the enjoyment... well, no one told me to shut up....

I don't want to give anything away, in the way of the plot, but well, it's a little like this - Good king and Bad king are cousins and gamblers. Bad king is greedy and envious of Good king and, because he is a Bad king, he tries to do away with Good king but only injures him but it is a bad injury. Fortunately Good king is rescued by wise old bloke with extensive knowledge of herbal medicine and pure-hearted beauty for a daughter.  Good king takes a shine to daughter. Bad king visits, meets daughter and is also smitten. Old man, no idiot, declares Good king well enough to go forth. Daughter decides to go forth with Good king. Old man not happy but frankly, no one's really asking for his opinion and besides.... and so the Bad king tries one devious stunt after another in order to win the heart of pure-hearted beauty from his well-intentioned but wreckless Good king cousin. Bad king woos her the only way he knows how... with shows of power, showers of wealth, the occasional revolting grope and a mangey-looking parrot or two (let's face it, b&w does nothing to enhance colourful plumage).... will the gift of exotic birds less colourful than the maestro's website ( Wink ) swing the deal..... I'm not prepared to say but I suspect that you could figure that out without me having to give away the whole story!

Thanks for the synopsis Buga! Sounds like it was a fun evening. Smile

Re: Please...could we not mention food?

Well Buga I hope you are feeling better now.  Yes, most picnics are alfresco, but maybe not all.  I'm thinking of the picnics at Glyndebourne (the opera) or in Car Park No 1 at Ascot (horse racing) on Ladies' Day.  There they have the hamper, the champagne, a butler or two maybe.

As for the very Hungry Caterpillar, just make sure there aren't any holes in your postings Big Smile

Re: Please...could we not mention food?

Yeah, it was fun. Given the ever-expanding list of films Nitin's written scores for, isn't it time for some sort of retrospective film fest' ...or... several? Anyway, it's going to be a while before I write any more 'reviews' . I'm not going into hibernation, just to other events! Smile Well, you know, too much of a good thing and all that.....

Rosemary, you're right about the indoor picnics - spotted one the other evening at the RFH while I was out with my butler!
