Tune ID from Big Chill please

I was completely blown away by the Club Tent set at Big Chill yesterday. One track made me want to write this - about half an hour or so into the set, about 3:40 I think, heavy atmospheric D+B track with soft Asian female vocals coming in over the top. Who / what was that - can anyone help?

    Thanks, John

Well they were all heavy D & B Smile- though that was what I was expecting

I didn't keep a track of the time - I had trouble getting there and was relieved to make it and not miss any of the set.  Was it "So Gaye Hain" you were thinking of?  Original version here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aLX1AeQM6u0 The version Nitin played was from Nasha "Eastern Drum & Breaks Volume 2" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eastern-Drum-Breaks-Vol-2/dp/B000CPHC7W/ref=pd_sim_m_h__1   IIRC He also played a couple of tracks from Volume 1 - Militant, and Freedom, both of which are on his Fabriclive compilation.

Good Heavens! Either you've got an incredible memory Rosemary, or else you were taking notes.... Good that you got to see the man with his dj hat on.  How's the lughole btw?

Technograndad.... is that as in old guy with a dodgy pacemaker that emits rapid beats and highspeed high hat sounds or, is it as in you can be found most evenings abandoning the pipe and slippers in favour of tinkering with your crystal wireless set in the garden shed.... except for whenever there's a re-run of "The Goodlife"...

Well I wasn't taking notes.......  BTW Nitin wasn't wearing a hat ..... couldn't see colours properly but I suspect he was wearing his customary khaki coloured t shirt (the colour suits him though).  The ear is fine, thanks.  After a while I could feel a tickling in my ear and the earplug inner bit eventually came out of its own accord.  That was a relief.

Buga, I think you are being a bit hard on Technograndad.  After all he is not much older than I am ..... even if I seem to be getting younger and younger with all the time I spend working with students Lol  Anyway isn't Techno a musical reference?  I think I shall be playing a lot of that or anything else loud e.g. drum and bass, once the Olympics are on the television and I am exiled from the front room.

    Je despair!!!!

So, aren't either of you going to contribute some feedback for the soon-to-come "Audience Reaction" page.... you might even mention that Mr. S was wearing his lucky t-shirt in the, also soon-to-come trivia page (why do I get the uncomfortable feeling that Beverley was thinking of us when she created that one).

I'd sooner eat my old sneakers than listen to techo music (no offence btw, Technograndad) but yeah, Olympics... well, I can escape from it this time but not the next!

Re: Tune ID from Big Chill please

    The short answer is no!

My phone is wearing out and so the pictures I took aren't worth posting on this site or the Flickr one either.  I have just bought a new phone with a 5 mp camera so possibly there might be some from the tour in October.  I understand the Bristol venue is quite small, so could get up close enough to take pictures.  You will just have to wait and see ........

I think "No" is quite possibly the shortest answer to just about any question unless you as expecting a single letter or digit in response.

Anyway, who needs images when a thousand words will do (although you could use less of them and write a shorter 'review') .... yep, stick with words and you can't go far wrong, whereas, if you whip out your camera phone at close range, you'll risk looking like a stalker and end up being thrown out of the venue by the bouncers....

Ah but Buga, "brevity is the soul of wit".  (Hamlet)

I think with the camera, it depends whether the venue allows you to take photos or not.  I seem to remember Nitin saying that with the advent of camera phones, he didn't mind photos being taken as long as it was not too intrusive.  No winking Wink at him then?

    Rosemary,

Many thanks for answering. You may well be right in identifying the track as So Gaye Hain, certainly the vocal on youtube is familiar, but I can't find a sample from Eastern Drum and Breaks vol2. I reckon I'll order it off Amazon since it seems quite cheap. Worth a try anyway. I've listened to my Fabric CD, it's not on there.

    Buga,

I'm old enough to have teenage grandchildren but young enough to get out there and enjoy good music :-)

Thanks folks, I *will* track this tune down!

    Technodaddy,

I hope you like the Nasha album anyway - Sahara is good too.  As far as the set goes, the only two other tracks I recognised were from Fabriclive, I wasn't intending to suggest they were the tracks you were looking for. I've looked at your last fm profile - some interesting stuff there ...... keep listening to the music :)

You do know Buga was pulling your leg, don't you?

Re: Tune ID from Big Chill please

Ah yes, indeed, Rosemary is right!   I was pulling your leg Technograndad, although I was teasing you about the 'techno' part of your monika rather than the 'grandad' bit! Ofcourse, I would never venture to pull your leg had your called yourself "Technogranny", for grannies are comparatively frail creatures and their little legs are prone to snapping like dry twigs if tugged...

.... I bet I was right about "The Good Life" though..... there isn't a man alive over forty, who doesn't remember Felicity Kendall.........Wink
