    Film recommendations

My friend S is a big fan of the movies, and if we don't go out, we sometimes watch them at her house, as she has Sky with pay per movie.

We watched Water, see www.imdb.com/title/tt0240200/ at her house - though not to be watched if you are feeling sad.  We both thought it was a very good film.  The only criticism I would have was that the English sound was a bit indistinct.  We could have had a choice of Hindi with subtitles and should have chosen this.

We've also watched Monsoon Wedding www.imdb.com/title/tt0265343/ a couple of times.

I've also watched Mother India http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050188/ on TV though it was a while ago.

Anyway, people, keep the recommendations coming.

Thanks.  I haven't seen "Water" but I've seen the other two.  I tried eating a pot marigold once but it tasted disgusting and I spent the rest of the afternoon spitting out the petals.  "Mother India" was on at the Barbican recently and, because it's THE movie to see, I went to see it.... and "Sholay" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073707/ , which was just brilliant and even more comical because there was a toddler in the audience who was a gifted adlibber!

Years ago, I caught a couple of movies on TV that I enjoyed; "Ammoru" http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0264357/ which is a magical film. When they were making it, they wanted to bring the story up to date with special effects but didn't want to ruin it with the kind of Hollywood Blockbuster stuff.  They were lucky enough to have a special effects guy in town at the time who had a real feeling for what was needed. I also watched "Barsaat" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041161/, the 1949 version with Raj Kapoor and Nargis... sniff, sniff......

So, thanks to you and to Donald, I now have two titles that I can look for at the DVD rental store, which will make gawping at the 'Wall of Bollywood' slightly less intimidating!
